Genesis Scottish Open Betting Preview

The 2023 Genesis Scottish Open gives golfers a warm-up on links-style golf before next week’s Open Championship. The tournament is one of the five Rolex Series events on the DP World Tour and is co-sanctioned along with the PGA Tour. Tournament play takes place at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland.

Xander Schauffele won here last season, picking up his third victory of the 2022 season. Schauffele finished the four-day individual stroke play event with a total score of 273 (seven-under par) to hold off runner-up Kurt Kityama by one stroke.

Players in the field are fighting for a shot at a $9 million dollar purse, a $1 million boost from last year. The winner takes home $1.62 million of the total purse.

What to Know – The Renaissance Club

The Scottish Open was played at various courses around Scotland but the Renaissance Club has been the home of the tournament for the past five years. With a turn to a links-style layout, the tournament has appealed to players wanting to gain experience prior to the Open one week later.

The course is a par-70 that stretches approximately 7,200 yards in length. The course opened in 2001 and was designed by American golf course architect Tom Doak.

One quality about the course you don’t see around Scotland is the pine trees that dot the property and are strategically placed amongst the holes. Prior to the course’s existence, the property was home to 300 acres of pine trees planted shortly after World War II.

Winning scores have varied over the last four years, with scores ranging from 22-under to seven-under. The weather conditions, particularly the wind, play a huge role in the outcome of the tournament.

What to Know – The Scottish Open Field

Headlining this week’s field is world no. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler missed the cut at this course in 2022, a rare event for the 27-year-old who hasn’t finished outside the T12 since October. Rory McIlroy, the favorite to win next week’s Open Championship, is teeing it up this week for one last tune-up before the year’s final major.

Rickie Fowler, winner of the Rocket Mortgage Classic two weeks ago, is back in action this week. Fowler’s triumph was his first since winning the 2019 WM Phoenix Open. The 34-year-old won the Scottish Open in 2015 which was played at Gullane Golf Club.

Schauffele is back to defend his title and is joined by other top talent, including Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas.

Betting Favorites

Scheffler (+700) is the pre-tournament favorite. With a pair of victories this season and a stretch of six-straight top-five finishes, the no. 1 player in the world is a solid choice.

McIlroy closely follows behind at (+850). The product of Northern Ireland has been knocking on the door since his win in the fall in South Carolina, finishing in the top 10 in his previous five events played.

Cantlay (+1400) is next in line, and another Tour pro primed for a breakthrough win. The eight-time PGA Tour winner finished T4 here last year and comes across the pond after a T4 result at the Travelers Championship at the end of June.

Schauffele (+1600), Fowler (+2000), Hovland (+2000), and Tyrrell Hatton (+2000) round out the betting favorites. All four players come into the week playing in solid form and could easily find themselves on top of the leaderboard on Sunday.

UFC 290 Event Preview

International Fight Week is already here as we mark the halfway point of the 2023 UFC schedule. UFC 290 is taking place in Las Vegas this weekend to headline the festivities with a card full of unreal fights.

The headlining bout is a featherweight title fight between P4P great Alexander Volkanovski and interim title holder Yair Rodriguez. The world-class skill that Volkanovski has in all aspects of MMA, going up against the dynamic striking and submission ability of Rodriguez, makes for a great fight to watch.

The rest of the card is filled with great fights. The co-main event is the flyweight world title fight between champion Brandon Moreno and his familiar foe Alexandre Pantoja. Along with that, we get to watch the great Robert Whittaker take on exciting rising contender Dricus Du Plessis.

With many more fights filling out the card from top to bottom, let’s see what the best bets are for this weekend to really bang the book.

Main Event – Volkanovski vs. Rodriguez

Starting at this amazing main event bout, Volkanovksi is arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world right now and he is defending his featherweight bout against the interim title holder Yair Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is a Mexican martial artist that has transformed the sport of MMA in Mexican culture. With the help of current UFC champs Brandon Moreno and Alexa Grasso, they have paved a path for the Mexican youth to pursue MMA.

The slight edge goes to Volkanovski in this one because of his all-around game and fight IQ. The fighting system that he uses is second to none, and he trains with such an incredible and supportive team both in Australia and when he visits New Zealand and City Kickboxing.

Our prediction for this one has to stay in Volkanovski’s corner. He is too good to bet against right now in his career. If Rodriguez gets the job done, it will most likely be an incredible KO that catches Volk.

Other Key Fights

UFC 290 almost has too many fights to keep track of and get to all of them. But one of the most interesting is the featured prelim bout between future UFC hall of famer Robbie Lawler and fan-favorite Nikko Price.

These two never turn in a boring performance, and this one will most definitely be a bloody 15 minutes.

Another great matchup on the UFC 290 prelims is the Jimmy Crute vs. Alonzo Menifield rematch. Their first fight was decided by a DRAW, and this one will be a barn burner as well. Sit back and enjoy this one, as this is too close to bet on.

The sleeper pick of the night has to be Dan Hooker beating Jalin Turner. This main card lightweight bout is amazing and it’s confusing how other fights are overshadowing them. Any other event would probably have this on the poster.

Hooker is believed to be out of his fighting prime by many, but he’s got a new and improved mindset and has taken his career to the next level, according to people close to him. When Hooker is at his best, he can truly beat anybody in the world, and this is a great underdog pick.

If you really want to bang the book, put a parlay together with guys like Tatsuro Taira, Jack Della Maddalena, Bo Nickal, and Robert Whittaker winning. These are all very skilled fighters with very favorable matchups this weekend. A parlay with all of them winning turns into pretty good odds and a nice payout when they all hit.

BetOnline has Bo Nickal as the most favored fighter in UFC history at -2500 odds. This is a historic night for him and the UFC, and he should get the job done with the chance to showcase his skills for the world to see.

WNBA Thursday June 15th Betting Odds

There are three games on the WNBA schedule for Thursday night, including games featuring each of the participants in last year’s WNBA Finals. There is also a game featuring one of the more intriguing young teams in the league, who will look to get over the hump after losing to their Thursday night opponent in overtime in their last meeting. Here, we break down all three games on the WNBA schedule for Thursday night.

Atlanta Dream (+7.5) vs Connecticut Sun (O/U 163)

The Atlanta Dream are coming off of a huge upset win over the New York Liberty on Tuesday night. They will look to build on that with another road win as they face the Connecticut Sun at Mohegan Sun Arena. But for the Dream to pick up another impressive victory in this contest, the Dream will have to find a way to stop a Connecticut team that is much more consistent on the offensive end on the floor.

The Liberty are still trying to figure things out offensively after making so many offseason moves, and they were also without Sabrina Ionescu for Tuesday’s matchup. Meanwhile, the Sun have a ton of continuity with DeWanna Bonner and Alyssa Thomas leading them. It will take an even better defensive effort from the Dream to pull out a second straight win away from home.

Indiana Fever (+3) vs Chicago Sky (O/U 159.5)

The Indiana Fever are starting to build something special after last year, when they lost 18 games in a row to end the 2022 season. They have been dominant on the glass so far this season, with Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith making a formidable young duo for them. Here, they will look to win on the road against the Chicago Sky, in a rematch of their overtime game from a couple of weeks ago.

Chicago is incredibly thin up front for this game, which could cost them in a big way in this game. But the Sky have the advantage from the guard spots, as Kahleah Copper is expected to play despite missing some practices due to personal issues. Whichever team imposes its style onto this game the most effectively should be able to come away with a win in the Windy City.

Seattle Storm (+17.5) vs Las Vegas Aces (O/U 168)

The final game of the Thursday WNBA schedule is expected to be the most lopsided game of the day. The Las Vegas Aces are hosting the Seattle Storm in a game with a point spread that could get close to 20 points by the time this contest tips off. Even with the Storm playing a little better of late, it is unlikely that they will be able to keep up with an Aces team that has lost just one time all season.

For this contest, the key will be the level of focus that the Aces bring into this matchup. The Aces have solidified themselves as so far superior to most of the league at this point in time that we could see their focus wane in the regular season periodically. But if they bring their maximum effort to this matchup, the Aces should be able to cruise against a Storm team that needs to provide Jewell Loyd with some help in the worst way.
